Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fees for Harrow Steel are £60 per term for the Senior Band, and £40 per term for the Junior Band.

  • Junior band is for children aged 9-13 

    Senior band is for young people aged 13 and above. 

  • Junior band practices are held on Saturdays 09.30am – 10.30am

    Senior band practices are held on Wednesdays 5.00pm – 7.30pm

    We also run one workshop in the summer, usually the first week of the summer holidays.

    Additional Saturday rehearsals take place for seniors as and when – e.g. if there is an important concert coming up.

  • No, you do not need to purchase your own steel pan. We have a huge selection of steel pans your child can play, including Tenor pans, Bass, and Seconds. Sticks are also provided, but should you wish you are more than welcome to purchase your child their own steel pan sticks.

  • We provide band t-shirts to all members, which we expect to be worn at all community events.

    Your child may wear their own clothes to band practices. 

  • No, you don’t need to be able to read music. Steel pan music is taught visually by our experienced tutor, and played from memory. We do not read sheet music and as such this is not a requirement. 

  • Although we are based on school grounds for all practices, Harrow Steel is a separate organisation. As such school music fees are not counted towards Harrow Steel enrolment.
